About the Policy

The community, as outlined in the Community Vision, is seeking an inclusive and welcoming community through accessible infrastructure and facilities.

The Victorian Government through the Office of Women and Girls developed a Fair Access roadmap which requires all Victorian Councils to adopt a Fair Access policy to remain eligible for Victorian Government infrastructure funding towards sport and recreation facilities.

Despite the expectations of the Victorian Government, the direction to make Cardinia a fairer place to play sport and be active is the right thing to do.

Council acknowledges that there are challenges for everyone to participate in sport and active recreation based on their gender, age, culture, language, abilities, etc. The Active Cardinia Strategy defines ‘active recreation’ as non-competitive physical activity undertaken during leisure time, individually or in groups. Examples of active recreation include, but not limited to walking, cycling, running, fitness/exercise activities, swimming and yoga.

Council is seeking your advice on how we can make Cardinia a fairer place and identify ways we can remove barriers to increase participation in active recreation across the shire, in particular females.

The survey is now closed. Thank you for your feedback! Follow this page to received all updates on the final Fair Access Policy once completed.
