Project update - June 2023

The final design features and layout of the dog off leash area in Alma Treloar Reserve is based on community feedback, the need for flexibility with the use of the area, and Melbourne Water requirements.

While the key elements of the dog off leash area have been completed to the extent the community can start using it, the project is expected to be officially completed in the coming weeks.

The outstanding items to be completed include garden beds and planting, creek bank revegetation, drinking fountain installation, seating, signage, and bins, as well as a granitic path extension to the pump track.

While most works are expected to be completed in the coming weeks, the drinking fountain will be installed after the proposed carpark improvement works have been completed next financial year.

Once all the remaining items have been completed, the community will be notified. During this time, council will continue to monitor the site and make improvements to ensure the area remains usable as we head into the winter months.

Project description

Alma Treloar Reserve is a large reserve located on the corner of McBride Street and Pakenham Road in the heart of Cockatoo. It is home to many community facilities including the Ash Wednesday Bushfire Education Centre. The dog off-leash area will be located in the centre of the reserve, to the south of the existing car park.

This location is also home to the annual circus event and market so the original concept design has been altered to allow for these events to continue.

Fencing, concrete pathways, seating bins and drink tap works are in progress, we estimate this project to be complete in July 2023.
