This Girl Can Week is Coming Soon (9th – 15th October)

26 September 2023

You would have heard about the This Girl Can campaign as it has been running for several years, but each year there is a specific focus week called This Girl Can Week - Inspiring women to get active – however, wherever and whenever they choose, without being judged.

We have an aim to ensure people of Cardinia Shire know how and where they can get active and potentially connect into things they have never thought about or had the opportunity to try in a safe, fun and inclusive environment.

Each club can become a supporter (see info below) and commence promoting their programs and offerings during this week. As a bonus we will also be connecting these activities to What’s On Cardinia - https://whatsoncardinia.com.au/

Each club will be responsible for adding their own activities and activations on the TGC events page. Here are some tips about being involved in the This Girl Can Week.

  1. Sign up to become an official supporter, its easy and free and means you get access to all the branded TGC content to use on your socials and promotional avenues. https://thisgirlcan.com.au/sign-up/ This also helps when people search for supporters as your club can be recognised.
  2. Start entering your club activations on the TGC events site – check with your State sporting association or local league to see if they too are doing anything or encourage them to support your club activations in Cardinia. Remember to be descriptive about who you are trying to attract, consider low cost and free programs, do you require bookings or can people just turn up? Are you running the programs at a time that suits your target audience or do they need specialised equipment? Are you clear in the instructions on who to contact, where to go and what to do as soon as they turn up for example the person wearing the volunteer top or the coloured hat, meet at the steps or the front door. Remember this campaign targets those who may have barriers regarding participation or may not want to play regular structured competition, so what’s on offer for them. Be creative, mums and daughter programs, bring a friend, multisport activities with other clubs or groups at your reserve or even activities you can run together with community organisations. If you have a link to your club page(s) make sure the content is up to date, first impressions matter, make sure you have people that might look like them so they can see themselves represented in imagery.
  3. Promote…. Through any means possible. Yes your club pages but consider other areas like the local shops, your sponsors, through businesses your members may be connected to, neighbourhood and community houses, doctors clinics, real estate’s etc. As outlined above, I will be seeking to add all of the related content the What’s On Cardinia so we can dual promote as different people will seek out activities in different ways. Cardinia Shire will look at our social avenues as well and post information about TGC week so make sure your info is on the platform early.
  4. During the TGC week, I can get out and about to your venues and activities. I will have some special collateral being supplied by VicHealth to get photos. We will try to get the media along to events also, you may wish to promote to your own media contacts.
  5. Have Fun.

We would love to hear from your club about your activities and events and if there is any way we can further support you in your delivery.
