Project overview
Cardinia Shire Council is planning to upgrade Rix Road and Brunt Road in Officer, in line with the endorsed Officer Precinct Structure Plan.
To support the increasing traffic and growth in Officer, a new roundabout will be installed at the Brunt Road and Rix Road intersection, extending to connect with Lincoln Avenue.
Brunt Road will also be duplicated from the railway crossing bridge to Rix Rd, and Rix Road will be duplicated from Brunt Rd intersection to Stephens Rd.
Other works will include:
- Pavement construction
- Kerb and channel
- Drainage improvements
- Lighting
- Speed cushions
- Shared pedestrian and cycle paths
- Landscaping
- Pram crossings
- Bus stops
- Indented parking
As part of these works, a solid centre median traffic island will be installed along the full length of Rix Road, which will limit drivers’ ability to turn right in or out of the connecting streets: Park Central Avenue, Tara Boulevard and Golden Banksia Drive. Drivers will be able to turn left in and out of these streets, however they will need to utilise the new roundabouts to turn-around.
This decision has been endorsed by Council as part of the Officer PSP and separately as part of a notice of motion resolved by Council in February 2024.
To enable duplication works, the draft design also outlines the removal of the service roads currently located along Rix Rd, which includes on-street parking options. To replace the on-street parking included within the service roads, the design has incorporated indented parking in small sections near Park Central Avenue.
Council is holding a community information session on Tuesday 16 April 2024 between 5pm-6pm at the Civic Centre located at 20 Siding Avenue, Officer.
Interested community members are encouraged to attend this session, as Council Officers will be available to provide additional information and answer any questions related to the project and the Officer Precinct Structure Plan.
