Council, as the naming authority, has received a request from the family of the late Lesley Harvey and the Garfield Community Association to commemoratively name Greenland Court Reserve as Lesley Harvey Reserve.
This request seeks to honour her extensive contributions as a community volunteer in the 1990s, during which she worked with Council on developing the reserve as a play space.

The proposed naming also marks a range of significant contributions which is supported by information submitted by the Garfield Township Association.

The range of community projects and organisations, included:

• Serving as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of Garfield Kindergarten

• Organising the Garfield Primary School Fete, bake sales, and overseeing the school library upgrade

• Coordinating the 100-year time capsule and tree planting celebration

• Playing a major role in the Garfield Christmas Carnival

• Contributing to the Garfield Progress Association and the establishment of the Community Bank

• Founding and leading the Garfield Safety House Committee

• Supporting the production and distribution of both the Garfield and Bunyip Newsletters

• Assisting with the development of the Bunyip BMX Track

• Participating in the Cardinia Shire’s StreetLife Project

• Organising local fundraising efforts for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, including community golf days

• Supporting the Garfield Football and Netball Clubs, despite not having children involved in either – simply because she believed in building community.
