This project is now complete

Brigitte and Melissa from Melbourne’s Murals have now completed the painted mural at Comely Banks Pavilion in Officer. Using community feedback and Council’s Public Art Policy and strategies, Melbourne’s Murals have added a creative flare to the pavilion with inclusive and diverse representations of sports players.

Thank you to all who participated in the consultation activities. Your feedback has helped shape the design of this artwork, promoting a safe and inclusive environment for all.

To celebrate the completion of this project, Melbourne’s Murals and Council are hosting a Community Day on Saturday 28 October 2023, from 11am -1pm. Please join us in celebrating this wonderful project.

Project Update - August 2023

After carefully reviewing your feedback, we have made alterations to the artwork design. One of the key changes we have made is the removal of the skater (with no skating taking place at the Comely Banks) and replacing them with a sporting star with a disability. This consideration is to ensure the artwork promotes a safe and inclusive environment for all, with representation of all abilities. There were also some minor adjustments to the colour palette. The changes and final design are shown in the document library on this page.

The artists from Melbourne’s Murals will begin installation of the mural on Monday 11 September, with painting taking approximately 2-3 weeks. The whole project is scheduled for completion by December 2023.

About the project

In line with Cardinia Shire Council's Public Art Policy and strategies in the Council Plan, a new public artwork has been sought for the Comely Banks Pavilion in Officer.

Council put out an Expression of Interest (EOI) seeking a suitable artist or arts group to deliver the artwork. A selection panel consisting of members from Council's Arts and Recreation teams reviewed the applications and narrowed it down to a top two. The top two were given a concept development fee of $2,000 to further their project ideas and present their developed concepts to a working group consisting of teams across Council, to identify the successful candidate.

Following this process, we have commissioned Melbourne's Murals to create the Comely Banks Pavilion public artwork. This artwork will be painted onto the existing brick exterior of the building, intended to bring a creative flare to the surrounds. The draft design is in the document on the right-hand side of this page for your viewing. We will be asking for your feedback and input into the design through a survey below, as well as a face-to-face pop up session. Details for this session is listed on the right-hand side of this page.

We want to hear from you about the design of this exciting new artwork in Officer.
