Middle East conflict: what Australian businesses need to know

2 April 2026

The Australian Government is supporting businesses affected by the Middle East conflict, which is causing higher fuel prices and ongoing global supply‑chain disruption, while confirming Australia’s fuel supply remains secure in the short term.

Temporary measures include halving fuel excise on petrol and diesel, reducing heavy vehicle road charges, monitoring fuel pricing, and coordinating responses through the National Fuel Security Plan. Businesses—especially exporters—should plan for higher freight costs, fewer transport options, and longer delivery times, review contracts and insurance, and communicate delays to customers.

Additional support includes monitoring fertiliser supply, flexible ATO tax arrangements, easier credit access, free financial counselling, and mental health support for affected business owners.
