Backing Local Manufacturers To Boost Jobs

11 August 2025

The Victorian Government has awarded over $800,000 in grants to 11 local manufacturers through Round 5 of the Supply Chain Uplift Program, aimed at strengthening Victoria’s defence industry capabilities.

These grants, of up to $100,000 each, will support facility upgrades, product development, and industry accreditations to help businesses compete for major defence contracts, including those with Hanwha Defence Australia. One recipient, Stahl Metall, will invest in advanced manufacturing equipment to enhance its competitiveness and pursue further defence opportunities.

This initiative aligns with Victoria’s strategic goal to become a national leader in defence and aerospace, leveraging programs like LAND 8116 and LAND 400 Phase 3, which are expected to generate over 1,000 direct jobs and benefit thousands of businesses. With the defence sector already contributing $10.9 billion annually to the state economy and employing more than 29,000 people, the program reinforces the government’s commitment to building sovereign industrial capability and driving long-term economic growth.
