Cardinia Shire has commenced the Cardinia Agribusiness Audit project, aimed at producing a comprehensive agricultural audit of the shire. The Audit will identify growth opportunities and challenges faced by the local agribusiness industry. Project objectives include understanding the current state and future potential of our industry; and formulating strategic actions to develop a sustainable and thriving local agribusiness community. The Farming and Food Futures Workshops are an important stakeholder consultation activity to gain industry insights and perspectives.
Two important Agribusiness Audit Activities for industry consultation are:
Purpose: to invite participation, awareness, call for action, consultation for data collection.
We invite you to participate in Cardinia Shire Council's Agriculture Audit surveys. These surveys are an important stakeholder consultation activity of the Cardinia Agribusiness Audit, aimed at identifying the current status, challenges, opportunities and actions to develop a sustainable and thriving local agribusiness community.
To identify important issues impacting the local industry, individual business viability and to better quantify general production and the economic operating environment.
For Who: Farmers, share farmers, property leasees, agritourism businesses, all property owners with available land to conduct farming and associated activities.
This has been emailed or mailed out to all farm rated property owners (receiving the Farmland, Primary Production or Single Farm Enterprise rate levies) registered with CS Council.
Other unidentified rural property owners who may be full-time or part-time farmers or have vacant rural land and are interested in farming or share farming, are also able to access the farming/property use survey via the following link.
If you are involved in other sectors of the agribusiness industry (i.e. manufacture, post-harvest marketing) or associated organisation, please complete the addition survey sections. On average, these may take 15 minutes to complete.

These surveys will close on June 16th 2024.
Your responses are completely anonymous. For further information see Cardinia Privacy and the FAQ.
The results will enable actions to be identified to better support agribusiness. Thank you for your feedback, advice and support for creating a more dynamic local farming, food and agribusiness environment.
To gather information from farming businesses, land owners (first part), food businesses and associated agricultural sector stakeholders (second part) that better quantify the current economic status of the agribusinesses, identify issues impacting on individual business viability and the overall local industry. The survey will cover various aspects of your business, highlighting general production and economic operating environment, any workforce constraints, logistics challenges, and barriers that constrain current or future opportunities for expansion or diversification.
The survey data will be analysed to identify common challenges and patterns within Agribusiness (Agriculture and Food). It will be used to structure targeted actions and invest in support services to respond to these challenges.
We also want to collect information from those who do not work full time on their farms. The large numbers of part time farmers are significant to the region’s economy, and we want to get a better understanding of your individual and valued contribution.
It will:
The success of the Audit relies on input from all farmers in the region, so you are encouraged to take the small amount of time needed to complete this questionnaire.
Other potential benefits:
We encourage commercial farmers, small rural land owners, on-farm food and beverage processors, agricultural supply chain services, industry development officers, technical consultants and local agri-political organisations.
The time required to complete the survey will depend on the complexity of your business and the level of detail provided. On average, it may take around 25 minutes to fill out the questionnaire.
We value your privacy.
We aim to process and analyse the survey data as efficiently as possible. Once completed, the results will be compiled into a comprehensive report, and participants will be notified when it becomes available (approximately June-July 2024)
Unfortunately, once you have submitted the survey, you won't be able to make changes. Therefore, please take your time and review your responses carefully before finalising the submission.
