This project is now complete

Thank you to all sporting clubs, state sporting associations, industry bodies, community groups and community members for providing feedback and shaping the development of the Active Cardinia Strategy.

The first round of engagement for the Active Cardinia Strategy occurred between May-July 2022. 155 surveys were completed, 19 interactions with the map on Council’s Creating Cardinia platform, separate sporting club/group survey data obtained, and local data obtained from state sporting associations.

The second round of community engagement occurred between February-March 2023. A number of in face and online opportunities were available for the community and relevant organisations to provide feedback:

  • Creating Cardinia website
  • Cardinia Access and Inclusion advisory committee
  • Seniors network pop-up session
  • Cardinia sporting clubs
  • State sporting associations
  • Industry bodies

Key themes arising through engagement were safety and accessibility. We heard that the community support continued work on gender equity, as evidenced through the support for continuation of the Women and Girl’s sports participation network, and the development of Cardinia’s fair access policy. We also heard that the community wants to be engaged through the development of all active recreation infrastructure and reserve master planning.

Feedback from the engagement processes has been incorporated into the Strategy, with a list of key recommendations over the next three years endorsed.

Our Active Cardinia Strategy

Have your say about our draft Active Cardinia Strategy

Our vision for Cardinia Shire is:

A healthy and active community, supported by a network of high quality and accessible facilities, vibrant clubs, strong partnerships and equitable opportunities to engage in sport and active recreation.

The draft Active Cardinia Strategy provides a framework and direction for the long-term planning, development and management of sport and recreation facilities across the municipality and identifies programming and activation opportunities to drive increased participation in sport and active recreation across Cardinia Shire.

The opportunities to grow participation in sport and active recreation by engaging our community is a key priority of this Strategy. We also strive to remove barriers to participation, creating environments that are inclusive and diverse within our community.
